This brand new and exclusive series starts Monday 12th November 9pm on the UKTV Yesterday Channel (available on Freeview 19, Sky 537 and Virgin 203), and goes back to a time before precise, pin-point weapons took out specific targets, explores the effects of blades and bullets on a human body and reveals how battlefield wounds were treated by surgeons on the frontlines.
Karl looks at how weapons and body armour were developed and why some instruments of war were created to inflict the most untreatable, bloody and mortal wounds possible. He will also learn how the wounds they inflicted were treated and some of the brutal methods used in attempt to save soldiers.
Through war re-enactments, first-hand tests with battle experts and modern experiments, Karl will explore along with the viewer and discover the effects of gladius swords to vickers machine guns, blades, bullets, arrows and spears on a human being. Each episode focuses on a famous battle from history, The English Civil War, Battle of Naseby (1645) or battles such as The Battle of Towton (1461), known as the single bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil, with over 28,000 men hacked to death by Falchion swords and Pole axes in a single day.
Instruments of Death, is a fresh take on history, fascinating, modern and with an immersive look at the stark realities of battle, new and exclusive to “Yesterday” – Make sure you check it out and gain an exciting insight on some of history’s most deadliest weapons!!
